Whose Time Is It Anyway?

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can’t imagine why
We’ve all got time enough to cry
– Chicago

I’d never heard this expression
before coming to Montana
First time was at a workshop
Ready to begin
but a few people had yet to arrive

“They’re on rez time”
someone said,
knowingly, if somewhat smugly

Sometime later a couple of people
arrived and took their places quietly
The workshop had already begun
No one was harmed by this slight variance

So why “rez time”?
And why say it with a note of condescension?

Our notion of time is a
white dominant culture construct:
After all in our world:
Time is money
And money is all important
Mustn’t waste time
Mustn’t waste money

But what if our world shifted and suddenly
Time more important?
Time spent with family
Time spent outdoors
Time spent nurturing body and soul

We have so little time really
One can’t buy more time
for any amount of money

Perhaps we need to worry less about
being on time
and learn to take time
To live

Everything in its own time
Living more in harmony with nature
Seasons
Stages of life

Before we run out of time
